The raw material
What is beaver castoreum?
Castoreum is the dried secretion of the castor sacs of the North American beaver (Castor canadensis). Once cured and aged it gives a warm, leathery, animalic note with sweet, smoky birch-tar and vanilla facets.
Perfumers use castoreum as a tincture, resinoid or absolute in leather accords, chypres, ambers and fougères, where a small dose adds depth, warmth and lasting power. It is also prized in traditional attars across the Middle East and South Asia.
- Perfume tincturesAged in alcohol for fine fragrance
- Resinoid & absoluteSolvent extraction for concentrates
